ŠIMEK, Richard: The Boarding House in Michal na Ostrove [Bachelor thesis] / Richard Šimek -- The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The Faculty of Civil Ingeneering; - Department of Architecture. - Supervisor: prof.Ing. arch. Akad. arch. Miloslav Mudrončík. Academic degree: Bachelor. - Bratislava: SvF STU, 2015. 25 p. The aim of my thesis was to draw up an architectural study of a boarding house commissioned by the owner of the venue in a small village of Michal na Ostrove, in a neighbourhood called Kolónia, which is located near the district city of Dunajská Streda. The boarding house was designed to meet the requirements of a standard three-star accommodation facility. Because the boarding house in situated in the Danubian Lowland, it might offer accommodation for the clientele of both Termal Park Dunajská Streda as well as the sports facility Slovakia Ring. Besides, the boarding house is suitable for recreation and sports. There si a kitchen, a dining room and together with the café it can serve both the guests as well as the general public. The general appearance of the object, its location and the materials used reflect the rural environment in which it is set while considering the future development of the village as a satellite housing area for one of the nearby cities. The combination of natural materials such as timber and stone along with the modern architecture are meant to represent a link with nature, highlighted by an unusual green pattern on the facade. The layout of the boarding house is based on the orientation of the plot with regard to the cardinal points in order to secure the best possible natural light in the interior. The visitors might be attracted by the green walk-about roof which serves as a relaxation point for the guests.
