The presented diploma thesis is devoted to the analysis of biology, ecology, distribution and protection of the European bee-eater. It analyzes in detail factors influencing its occurrence and breeding success. In the defined territory of the Nitra region in the season 2018 and 2019 were identified (i) active nesting sites - Nemčiňany, Zbehy, Preseľany; (ii) former nesting sites - Alekšince-Lahne, Dolné Lefantovce and (iii) potential nesting site - Slepčany. For the first time the nesting locality Nemčiňany was described in detail. The highest number of individuals and nesting pairs was identified in the locality Zbehy. In the Preseľany locality, the highest number of nesting holes was identified. The number of individuals and the number of nesting pairs was less. An attempt to nest in horizontal terrain was recorded at the locality of Preseľany. However, these nest holes were abandoned or unfinished. In general, there were no significant inter-seasonal differences in the status of the European bee-eater in active nesting sites. The presence of the species was not recorded in the areas of Alekšince-Lahne and Dolné Lefantovce. Only abandoned and unfinished nesting holes were identified. The absence of a species is influenced by negative factors. These include sand mining, landslides, increased movement of people, the presence of waste dumps and road communications. Due to the significant influence of disturbing factors, we consider the European bee-eater's return to the territory of these sites unlikely. In addition, appropriate management measures have been proposed based on an assessment of the habitat status and the breeding status of the species in the area. Their role is to contribute to improving and increasing the status of the individual populations of European bee-eaters.
