ABSTRACTIn recent years, the artificial climbing structures for sport climbing and their safer systems has been developed. Wood as a renewable material, which is easy to work with, characterised with low bulk density is a good choice for the constructions. The introduction of the thesis is focused on mountaineering as a sport, its history as well as the future trends. In the following section, an artificial climbing structure as a building object is analysed. The attention is paid to each element used in construction and today´s systems, properties of the material used in the structure and surface treatments for sheeting. The safety devices needed in the case of artificial climbing walls are briefly described. Moreover, the situation on the Slovak market is described. The conclusion of the bachelor thesis is devoted to analysing and understanding the safety requirements and test methods necessary for designing these buildings. Finally, as the last step, an artificial climbing wall is designed.
