The topic of this diploma thesis is the monument restoration and adaptation of the former heating plant in Čulenova street in Bratislava, Slovakia. The object of the heating plant has weakened its value due to adjustments from the beginnings of the 40 's of the 20th century. Even though the object has the monumental values, so that it can be ranked among national cultural monuments. It has a high value, it may be associated with the most valuable sites of its kind in Slovakia. From the urban point of view, the heating plant is advantageously located. The site allows good public transport connections to the existing infrastructure as well as in the surrounding area, as it is located on good transport roads. Currently the terrain of the area is in ruined condition after the renovation of the unprotected heritage objects stretching between the streets of Čulenova and Landererova. Urban design of Zahy Hadid, as a basis for further development, is subject to criticism, but nevertheless, it is necessary to respect it and submit to it. The site takes the messy nature of the proportional solution and varied, contoured shape. The dominance of the industrial monument comes to an end here, where emphasis is placed on surrounding tall objects and organic terrain adjustment. The aim of the restoration of this monument will be to bring life to the ruined object of the heating plant and make its character and mass dominant in this significant urban design by appropriate interventions, respecting the requirements of the Monuments Board. The object of the former heating plant is renovated for cultural purposes, gallery spaces, where I respect the original object tectonics and I try to keep it in full extent and present its values and architectural character. In the proposal, I have focused on how to deal with the difficulties of the main space of the former heating plant, which has the largest historical value and in doing so, it can be more fully used. a neighbourhood of historic scuttle becomes the dominant space in the hall, two of which I present in the original mass and tectonics, and the third is presented as an illuminated work of art with regard to its merits, formed with charcoal for highlighting the symbolism of this valuable industrial buildings. The main idea is to create an open space in the hall through the progressively receding terraced floors that allow better view of the dominant centrobaric space. The space of the hall is fully exploited in terms of floors surface area, creating thus spaces which do not suppress the preserved legacy, but on the other hand, they stress it.
