Common juniper (Juniperus communis L.) is a shrub or rather a small tree, widely-spread and common in the Slovak Republic in the middle of the last century. The nowadays it belongs to the endangered species. Its galbulas, called juniper berries, are used as spice or for production of alcoholic beverages. The aim of this work was to map the population of juniperus communis in the selected area of the Slovak Republic (Čachtický vrch, Jalšové, Rajecká Lesná, Kláštor pod Znievom, Valčianská dolina, Donovaly, Kráľová (Zvolen), Veľký Folkmár, Volica, Kamenica nad Cirochou), further to perform dendrological measurements and draw up maps. In the locality mentioned above the population of 200 pieces of original junipers was found out. The size of the fruit of the juniper ranged from 0.3 to 0.8 mm and fruits with the largest average size come from Rajecká Lesná and Donovaly. The tallest individual, 500 cm, grew in Kraľová (Zvolen) and had a thickness of d0.15 10,5 mm. The thickest individual, with d0.15 14,5 mm, grew in the area of Veľký Folkmár and had a height of 300 cm. Overall, the height in the sites studied ranged from 20 cm to 500 cm and the thickness d0.15 from 1 mm to 14,5 mm.
