Zvolen LF TU, 2019The work focused on the evaluation of the development of trophy quality of deer in the territory of the University enterprise in Zvolen with long-term application of breeding principles. The research was carried out in the Kremnica Hills in the hunting ground of the VŠLP for 32 years from 1985 to 2017. During this period, we collected 2360 data for 1863 data matches and 542 data for the trophies. The aim of this work was 1. To evaluate the development of trophy quality of deer in the University Forestry Enterprise in Zvolen (VŠLP) by comparing the matches and trophies from 1985 to 2017. 2. To analyze the impact of physiological characteristics of the individual on the development of antlers in deer. 3. To evaluate the impact of deer antler characteristics on their point value and to evaluate the significance of the findings for hunting practice. We found that the average point value for 32 years increased by 9.6 C.I.C which is quite a lot. The impact on it was climate and honest management since 2000. The average annual temperature increased by up to 2 ℃, which has a large beneficial effect on the quantity and quality of natural food and the development of antlers, with an increase of 100 g of antlers. During the period of 32 years there was a political change (the fall of the communist regime 1989), which was also negatively reflected in the management of the deer trophy game until 2000. Between 1985 and 2000, trophies were hunted for the largest deer, regardless of the breeding principles, which was also reflected in samples where trophies were stronger than matches. The best was hunted in the territory and the worst remained for the next breeding. After 2000, the match values were greater than the trophy, which meant a more honest and more professional approach to deer trophy management, where rigorous selection resulted in significant changes in parameters and overall C.I.C point value for better. After the experience with this work, we then proposed measures to improve the management of deer in the territory of VŠLP.
