The aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate favorable condition of the brown bear (Ursus arctos) in PR Lúčky. In the first part of this thesis I have described the ecology, ethology and biology of the bear. Later I have described in detail the monitored area of PR Lúčky. The monitoring section explains methods, which are used in monitoring of bear. The results contain tables and graphs of increase and decrease of the number of the bear individuals in the decade from 2009 to 2019 in Slovakia and more precisely in the Žilina region where the aforementioned PR Lúčky is located. Tables show that during the decade from 2009 number of bears have increased by 691 individuals. Whereas the biggest number (2631) was in year 2019. This thesis also deals with the evaluation of attacks and damage caused by bears in the before mentioned period and area. Damage caused by bears in decade from 2009 to 2019 has reached 1 238327 € . The results contain table and graph of monitored and counted bears at four localities in PR Lúčky in 2020. The number of monitored individuals was 13. Based on the quantity of bears, density per 100 km2 was evaluated to 25,5. According to the calculated density, I evaluated a bear population status in PR Lúčky in 2020 as favorable. Results show that despite of hunting of these animals, the population of the brown bear was in favourable condition. In the end, I have evaluated obtained results and suggested management of bear in Slovakia.
