The focus of this research is in the area of High Density Housing. In particular, its presence and importance in cities, including the various tools that create efficient and intensive utilization of land. The research conducted is organized into fifteen chapters, explaining the term high density in relation to different countries. Furthermore, the study defines the term specifically for Bratislava, introducing new housing types applicable to Bratislava's conditions. Such a study is important to examine and evaluate the classic and modern interpretations of urban density, and how social changes and transformations can affect the forming of an image of city. Emphasis is placed on an acute need to increase urban density and efficiency in Bratislava. The research identifies the current state of the problem and offers the causes of densified housing volumes in the city. Through an understanding of historical developments and analysis of current narrowly profiled housing projects, it is possible to see the insufficient number of rentable apartments; public housing. The research further explores factors regarding distribution of housing in the city and defines the urban transformation processes and its interrelations to Bratislava as a case. The results include the understanding of key factors for the implementation of higher density housing. The research conducts an analysis of 14 housing areas in Bratislava, through study of building density, location, and form. The findings from such research provide clear evidence of the acceptability of higher density housing. The research engages in regulatory measures of housing construction in 4 different cities, all of which witnessed increase in density and in coherence with the principles of sustainable developments, each under different circumstances. The research conducted offers a vision of implementation of high density housing principles in Bratislava.
