Current European standards for design of steel and aluminium constructions include some methods, which can not be found in the originally used standards. The aim of the thesis is to calculate the resistance of compressed uniform built-up columns according to different standards and to compare the acquired values. The introduction is dedicated to a brief description of the built-up columns followed with the formulation of the issues related to the transition to the use the Eurocodes. The next part is dedicated to the members of centrally compressed built-up columns where consequently follow the calculations of resistance based on Slovak STN 73 1401: 1998, European STN EN 1993-1-1: 2006 and American Standard AISC 360: 2010. The resistances based on Slovak STN 73 1401: 1998 and European STN EN 1993-1-1: 2006 are investigated. Since the Eurocodes give the procedure valid only for the boundary conditions of the members supported by hinges, one part of the thesis presents the solution for the member fixed at one end and free at the other end. The compressed member is loaded also by the transverse force. The final part of the thesis is dedicated to the comparisons, evaluation of the results and summary.
