The aim of this work was to design a gallery at the bank of the Štrkovec Lake in Bratislava. This location is characterized by its specific charisma for the inhabitants and visitors of this area. The building responds to the structure of the surrounding buildings as well as to the natural elements. The mass of the gallery is situated on the intersection of the street lines and the neighbouring apartment buildings. This means that the main pedestrian entrance, from Ružinovská Street, to the area has been retained and the main entrance to the gallery is oriented to the west, mainly due to the view of the Štrkovec Lake. The mass of the gallery can be perceived as solitair element acting on the lakeside. The massive three-storey building is softened by a façade system with glass tiles. Those reflect the surrounding natural elements. The intention of the design was to create a building that would contribute to the attractiveness of the environment of the Štrkovec Lake, to create a space for the visitors of this area and the gallery itself and its employees. And at the same time it should fulfill an aesthetic function, but mainly to be a functional structure.
