The main content of this thesis is summary of information about eco-baskets and eco-mattresses, and their use in water management. Gabions structures have been introduced since now 120 years in the civil engineering applications. Thanks to their inherent properties (flexibility, permeability, environmental integration, ease of installation), gabions have been widely spread in civil works and especially in hydraulic applications. They offer a technical, economical and esthetical alternative to more traditional solutions such as rip-rap protection, concrete or sheet walls and have shown an extraordinary capability for regeneration of the environment. Since eco-baskets and eco-mattresses are filled with stones or soil, they allow sprawl of roots which eventually provide favorable developmental conditions.
