This bachelor thesis deals with the process of cutting wood and wood composite materials by laser, the effects that affect laser cutting, its advantages and disadvantages. The first chapter serves as a general characteristic of the laser. It contains the principle on which the laser works, its basic types and devices together with the possibilities of use in machining. The second chapter discusses and analyzes the current state of woodworking and wood composite materials by laser looking into its history and it informs us about the factors that affect wood cutting with a laser beam. Any machining, whether metalworking or woodworking, always has its negatives and the benefits that must be taken into account when designing the machining. This is the third chapter. The fourth chapter describes safety of working with the laser. It puts a lot of emphasis on it because lasers generate light in the infrared area, which means that the laser beam itself is not visible and can cause serious damage to vision or skin, and is reflected not only by direct beams. Therefore, the use of protective goggles is a prerequisite in the laser workplace. This chapter also deals with the impact of the laser on the environment, which must always be given enough attention and, of course, influence on humans. In the last chapter, we look briefly at the prognosis of the development of lasers and laser technologies, which have inherited unconventional industrial technologies for decades, but their development is far from over.
