Through this diploma thesis we would like to inform the public about the impact of winter recreation on fauna and flora. Specifically, we focused on changing the structures of ornithocenosis and the planned construction of a cableway in the High Tatras. We compared the biotope from the functioned ski resort Starý Smokovec with those that should be affected during the construction of the cable car at Hrebienok. We was counting up bird populations in the affected habitats by point method at radius of 25 m and 50 m. In a succession forest after a calamity we counted at 26 points, in a climax spruce forest at 22 points, in a dwarf-pine at 21 points and on a ski slope at 20 points. The results of counting were evaluated in terms of: species structure, population density, species richness and diversity. The habitat of the slope at points with a radius of 25 m was significantly different with the habitat of the succulent and spruce forest in all the examined aspects. There were the least represented species on the ski slope and the number of individuals was low too. Only on some sections were identical results with the dwarf-pine habitat. The biotope of the slope at 50 m radius points still had significantly different results, although these results were lower than at 25 m radius points. Reduce of the differences, we attach the fact that points with a radius of 50 m extend just into marginal habitats. Surprising was the finding of the occurrence of one species of European significance, namely Bonasa Bonasia Jariabok hôrny, which was not on any other biotope besides the ski slope. Conclusion of our findings is that the main source of negative impacts in ski resorts is the year-round adjustment of habitats. For this reason, we did a foreign literature searching. This searching just confirmed our hypotheses about the negative impact of winter recreation. Based on the findings, we have developed a summary of measures to minimize negative impacts on birds.
