The subject of the thesis is the interior design of the entrance hall and restaurant of the Lighthouse Hotel in Syracuse, whose proposal I dealt with in the pre-diploma work. The abandoned heritage building of the 19th century lighthouse Murro di Porco and its picturesque surroundings provide the premises for creating a unique tourist facility that will revive the declining territory. The land advantage is not only the nearby beach with access to the sea, but also the proximity of the historic city of Syracuse. The intention of the proposal was to build on the historic lighthouse function. Since ancient times, the light it radiated was a symbol of safety and at the same time entrance into ports. Therefore, the new object was designed to fit into the environment, not disturbing the lighthouse dominance, but on the contrary, supporting its function. The rotational movement of light defined the shape of the building and its beams divided it into four functional units (entrance areas and restaurant, accommodation part, hotel management, wellness). At the same time, they created views in which the lighthouse tower stands out. The facade was designed in accordance with the original object and rocky environment, a combination of visual concrete, white fiber-cement lining, white shielding lamination and a glass sliding facade. From the sea, the glass looks inconspicuous during the day and the light behind it strengthens the light of the lighthouse at night. This idea is followed by the interior design in the thesis. The selected functional area, consisting of the entrance area and the restaurant, is a representative part of the building that is supposed to draw visitors into the atmosphere that the beacon on the reef brings. This will evoke the interior in fine color shades and travertine tiles with a dominant ceiling of a network of small hanging lamps. The luminous ceiling creates waves that match the seaside environment and complements the context of the entire project with its light.
