The objective of the task was to design architectural adjustments of the objects and the whole area for new utilisation of the information centre -- the place of the visitors' first contact with the UNESCO protected area. The concept is based on opening the underground over the ground and vice versa. The Mayer shaft is designed for a functional change to exposure and exhibition room with presentation of cultural, historic and technical significance of the Mayer shaft's objects. Part of the concept is preservation of the Mayer II's mining tower and its incorporation into the interior of the new building of the information centre. Restoration based on a new shape has been chosen for needs of securing additional functions. The new building is referring to life and traditions of miners using local materials as the main design element. The design's philosophy is embodied in the core message which is the area's location, the UNESCO protected area. The whole area includes information on the whole of the region of Banska Stiavnica, it presents life of miners, industrial mining, technical landmarks and their in situ value, and is highly edifying. The importance of the work lies in realisation of cultural and historic significance of not only the Mayer's shaft, but also the listed UNESCO site and its meaning it used to have in the past.
