As a task of my diploma thesis i was working on a conversion of an Old Distillery in Liptovský Mikuláš to a cultural -- social centre for a local community. This theme was for me challenging enough both in terms of size and pontetial content processing. The Old Distillery is forgotten industrial complex in the direct centre of Liptovský Mikuláš, while it's part touches the Liberators square, which is the most significant in the city and complex itself has over the years become abandoned indeed, but very natural part of the urban structure and city skyline. The tower, which was used to refine spirit as well as the chimney are the landmarks of panorama of Liptovský Mikuláš. Only one of the buildings is part of the city's conservation area -- building of trestiareň, in which liquer essences were produced. Rest of the area does not interfere with conservation zone a also non of its parts is declared as a monument. This fact gives a good opportunity in creating concept on the whole conversion of an area, designing new features and its potential applicability in locating new functions. Complex since its origin has experienced a large number of conversions, but its original identity is still legible today. Part of my concept was to return this ultimate identity to the entire area and its individual parts as well, in the form of each of the buildings, from which every one of them deserved specific approach. I divided Distillery functionally into two separately functioning units, that are connected in ideological and physical form and therefore are creating a homogeneous whole. The comlex is converted into two centers of cultural -- social and sports nature and thus climbing and cultural centre. These are complemented by feature od temporary accomodation - a design hostel. Refinery tower, which dominates also the urban space takes the role of the landmark in a way of mater, idea and function, and is the gateway to the newly formed cultural - social point of the city of Liptovský Mikuláš and it's region - Old Distilery (Stará Likérka).
