BC. RABČANOVÁ ELENA: The University in Komárno. [Diploma Thesis] - Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The Faculty of Architecture. The final work supervisor: Ing. arch. Klára Macháčová, PhD., Bratislava 2013. The fortification system of Komárno is a large complex of fortification buildings built from the half of 16th century to the end of 19th century. The territory is an important historical monument with a global importance. It is situated in the northern part of the town of Komárno, at a historically strategic place, at the junction of the rivers of the Vah and Danube. It is national cultural monument and there have been attempts to write it to the UNESCO World Heritage List up to these days. The thesis is aimed to convert this complex into the function of a university ant to design the missing rooms in the way not to disrupt the panorama and historic character of the area, what is the main condition for writing it to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is clear in this case that it is an underground architecture with a range of huge rooms that are not situated in historical properties. On the surface of this building there is a thin layer of water serving as a partial reconstruction of the moat. All claims for solving the facility in historical surroundings give the building the possibility of a unique and unforgettable rendering.
