The diploma thesis proposes a Cultural and Spiritual Center at Trnavské Mýto and places the intervention in the building of the former House of Trade Unions - Istropolis. It elaborates on the surrounding urban area that is defined by the streets Vajnorská, Šancová, Trnavské Mýto and Škultétyho, whose main drawback is the isolation of its units and the absence of a good-quality public space.Traffic and social intersection joint Trnavské Mýto, which is becoming more and more important with the gradual decentralization of the significance of the historical city center, is currently primarily serving as a consumption center of the city, but the project proposes more diverse range of activities for inhabitants. Central sacred space - the ecumenical chapel is to offer a place for silence, encounter and dialogue. Pastoral center, meeting rooms, library, café and administrative section serve for the community, neighbourhood and visitors.Part of the new urban block are residential buildings with urban amenities, underground parking, communications, squares, parks and playgrounds with an emphasis on pedestrians. The new project preserves a hall for 1280 people and its function remains unchanged. The Children’s House functions as a workshop space for youth. High-rise building will serve as a hotel or other accommodation facility. The volume of the original building of the House of Technology is reduced and it can be used for art exhibitions, but also for administration or housing with ground floor amenities. The project is not the final solution to current situation of Istropolis and its surroundings, but it is one of possible ways how to address the 20th century buildings built in a period of undemocratic regimes whose architectural and cultural value is undeniable, but their original purpose no longer fulfills its role and their conservation is inadequate. Istropolis is a typical building of modern architecture from the 1960s, a symbol of time, a layer in the structure of the city that should be preserved through sensitive intervention and programme alteration.
