Hruška, Erik: Evaluation of cultivation european beech seedlings of various technologies (Bachelor Thesis) - Technical University in Zvolen, Faculty of Forestry, Department of forest cultivation. Thesis Supervisor doc. Ing. Ivan Repáč PhD., in Zvolen LF TU, 2019, 67 p.This thesis consists of finding out the influences of various cultivation methods, different types of substrata and their combinations (variants), on the growth of European beech seedlings during one growing season in Jochy forest nursery. Four types of substrates were used: Durpeta B2, Kekkilä B6, Kekkilä C1 and mineral soil. In these substrates, Osmocote, a long-acting granulated fertilizer was applied. Three methods of cultivation were chosen, namely the cultivation of containerised seedlings under the influence of polyethylene cover, the cultivation of bare-rooted seedlings in uncovered seed beds and the cultivation of bare-rooted seedlings under the influence of polyethylene cover. By combining these substrates and methods of cultivation, we created 10 variants, with a triple repetition. Representative samples were taken after one growing season, 15 pieces of each variant and repetition. Subsequently, the samples were evaluated, their biometric values, such as above-ground height, root crown thickness, stem dry weight, leaf dry weight, and root dry weight. From these values, other quantities were derived such as the dry weight of the above-ground part, the weight of the dry matter together and the ratio of the dry weight of the root portion to the dry weight of the above-ground part. Seven samples were randomly selected from these samples to evaluate the root endings under the magnifying glass. The number of root endings per centimeter, the presence of mycorrhizal roots, the presence of mycorrhizal inactive roots and the representation of mycorrhizal root morphotypes were investigated. These data were subsequently evaluated by one-factor and two-factor analysis of dispersion. The test confirmed the effect of the cultivation method on the growth of European beech seedlings. The containerised seedlings were definitely the best option. The best substrate was Durpeta B2. It was also important to compare the seedlings growing under the cover and in the uncovered seed bed where only negligible differences were found.
