Abstract This thesis is focused on relationship between type of public green space in the city and benefits which provides to society. Public green spaces enhance the quality of life in urban areas. This objective has led to the creation of the catalog as a basis for a concept document (plan) for the development of public green spaces in the cities as a strategic base, which was created in response to practical experience of the author. The concept document will be designated for the development of public green spaces in urban areas and thus contribute to the introduction of concept document for public green spaces in Slovakia. In terms of practice it is an essential document which can help to create green public spaces towards their quality. One of the key ideas is the question of urban public green spaces sustainable quality -- how to ensure it in long-term and if it' s possible to plan in long-term in such a flexible conditions of the current city? There are following key questions that need to be identified in he thesis 1. What is the structure of the benefits for a particular type of public green space? Certain quality criteria were identified to according numerous benefits to provide for society. There is a demand for effective management of public green spaces for a purpose of benefiting from these areas. 2. Is the prioritizing of particular type of public green space as a part of effective management strategy crucial for ensuring certain benefit for society within the city context or there are the criterias of society needs representing ,,value of space' as fundamental guarantee of its quality? Are all of the green public spaces capable of providing psychosocial outcomes in terms of benefits? What criteria in terms of their quality assurance on system or component level should be the core to provide psychosocial benefits? The method of questionnaire survey (as a pilot survey in the area) is a method that has its aplication in assesing public green spaces (seeing it through qualitative data) in urban settlements and the results are use to restore all those areas. On the basis of informations obtained by the method of questionnaire survey we review the use of public green spaces and social demands imposed on it. These informations can be applied in spatial planning practise in the design of public green spaces in comparison of their quality. A field pilot action research and subsequent meta-analysis of quality and use of public green spaces are used as a parts of the basic conceptual document for the restoration, which is under the Law on spatial planning and building code non-binding basis. In terms of practice this is a major document which can help towards the development of public green spaces quality and should be reflected in the planning documentation. It helps increase the value of public green spaces in the cities in an integrated manner. In relation to the objectives we approach the theoretical meta-analysis based on a survey of literature of different quality criteria (theoretical research of public green spaces) as a social space for people to various forms of exchange the socio-economic, psycho-social and cultural. The result of meta-analysis the catalogue, the theoretical base, which has the ambition to show the qualitative aspect of public green spacess and benefits of different types to set the properties of what is suitable to a particular site will be prepared. Benefits of the catalog for the theory and practise are as follows: a/ theoretical: Creating a profile of benefits for all types of public green spaces benefits. 1. A new look at the quality of public green spaces consisting of a comprehensive assessment of their environmental, psychosocial and socio-economic benefits. Public green spaces are evaluated not only from a known quantitative site (amount) in respect of premises in urban areas, but also lesser-known quality of public green spaces perspective. 2. Verification of usefulness of SWOT analysis as method of strategic management for the evaluation of the analysis relating to the management of public green spaces. There will be defined the current trends in the managemant of spatial development of public green spaces and current management strategies of public green spaces in urban areas. 3. Typology of public green spaces in cities will ne enriched by their location within the context of the city. The aim is to document the relationship between the type of public green space and benefits, which provides for society and determine whether it is possible to define the composition of benefits typical of a certain type of public green space in the city. b/ practical: In the area of a strategic socio-economic planning using A Catalogue as a flexible tool for prioritization of investment in a particular type of public green spaces depending on the current vision of the city. The prioritization of certain types of public green spaces according the vision of the city is the answer for efficient and flexible solution for management of public green spaces in cities. Public green spaces that offer a low psychosocial leisure non-market value can be eliminated or changed to another type of public green space. B Developing a Catalogue of paid particular attention to psycho-social aspect and focus on public green space type Local city park in the housing area is useful for spatial planners in the development of public green spaces in the cities (as part of the monitoring system in the evaluation phase). key words: benefit, public green space, planning, management, quality
