The aim of bachelor thesis was to design an art centre for seniors located on Jantárová cesta in Bratislava, Petržalka district. In our conditions, this type of building is quite rare, so I have decided to pay attention to research of needs of the older generation. Based on the research of the topic and the analysis of the site, I have defined the principles underlying the design of architecture. The site is located between a residential and recreation zone with good civic amenities nearby. The advantage is also the strategic transport position considering the planned tram line, new development south of Petržalka and context to the “Chorvátske rameno” with natural environment. On the site I have placed two buildings - art centre and accommodation for seniors, based on an existing urban hexagonal structure and enhancing the composition of street space. The objects are designed to create semi-public spaces protected from the noise of the street, oriented towards the greenery and the “Chorvátske rameno”, while public space between them forms an attractive transition to the “Chorvátske rameno” and the proposed bridging. The building is focused on art, it contains spaces for art education, art creation, art exhibitions, as well as sports art. The design is based on respecting the needs of older people and their integration into society, which corresponds to the added public functions in the form of a cafeteria with a meal option, or by the rentable spaces forming an acoustic filter from the street and an urban parterre. The floor plans are simple, but interesting, with well-dimensioned corridors for the movement of people with various diseases. There are also a lot of relaxing spaces. Architectural design is based on terraces, atriums and entrances inserted into the elementary shape, that provide maximum interior to exterior contact and extend all functions to the exterior. Variety of functions and architecturally attractive space are designed to ensure the functional and economical sustainability of the building, which will be an added value to the whole location. Principles and aims arising from the initial analyses have been met and included in architectural design of the building, respecting the urban composition and natural elements.
