HUDEC, Matúš: Multifunkčná telocvičňa ( Bachelor thesis ). Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. Faculty of architecture. Institute of ecological and Experimental Architecture. Supervisor: Ing. arch. Tibor Varga, PhD. Bratislava: FA STU, 2019, 67 pOur chosen parcel is located in the site of Mladá Garda in Bratislava’s district Rača. In the northern part of the parcel is situated sports area CAS, in the western part are railways of the Slovak National Railroad Company. Eastern part is occupied by student’s dorm Mladá Garda and in the southern part are located garages belonging to residents of surrounding apartment houses. The area of Mladá Grada has very good connection to the public transport. Public transport stops are placed right in front of students’ dorm. Račianska ulica is frequented road running form and to the old city centre also to surrounding villages, therefore there is very good car connection to our site. Another positive aspect of the chosen site is closeness to the nearest train station Vinohrady. Main problem of this locality is static traffic – lack of parking spaces for residents and visitors. Our site is currently occupied by less used volleyball and tennis courts. Terrain in this part is visibly structured with a lowering into the central point, creating ‘amphitheatre’. Important determinant of my design was the closeness of the neighbouring dorm affecting the insolation of my parcel, as well as a protecting area of before mentioned railways, taking huge part of our parcel.I decided to take the structure of the terrain as an advantage and therefore to place big part of my designed multifunctional gym to the existing hole. Designed building is supposed to serve the needs of students living in the dorm, but also for a broad public. We count with organizing local competitions in sports. Focus was pointed not only to the quality of the sports pitches and the building itself but also to bring increased quality to the whole area. Therefore, we focused on the functional and architectural connection of the existing areal with the new building. My goal was to create a building where visitors will enjoy their spent time and they won’t come only for the game. That’s why another priority for me was to design the relax zone with so-called indoor park. The size and the shape of the building is mostly affected by the length of the running tunnel and the size of the sport pitch. The light height of the sports hall is approximately 11 meters.I avoid the shading of the dorm by my building thanks to placing the sports hall partly to the ground.
