The current trend in revitalization of cities is the creation of renewed urban wards from existing dilapidated industrial areas. These areas have the benefits of having high build-up ratio, being close to the center of the city or having existing technical infrastructure, which is usually designed to withstand higher loads than the future transformed area will need. This diploma project called "The transformation of an industrial area into an urban ward in Žilina" tries to find the optimal way how could the area of the "Považké Chemical factory" be transformed by altering the existing architecture present in that area. The urban study concerning this area assumes that all the dilapidated building will be torn down and the ones with architectural heritage will be reconstructed and will serve a different purpose. The main idea of this design are the transformed paths of the technical infrastructure which will be reused as foot bridges for pedestrians and will connect different important buildings within this area. The buildings that represent technical or architectural heritage for the city, the foot bridges and also the newly built buildings will create a new ward, which will be inspired by the factory that operated in this areas in the past. The newly build ward should evoke a still functioning industrial area. This complex urban project defines this transformed area as a new city ward -- a new city center acting both as a place to live, work and entertain. The proposed buildings respect the current height of the existing buildings and in some places skyscrapers are inserted which define the whole landscape of the area. An important factor influencing this area is an existing railway and bus station which are in direct contact with this industrial area. These two factors predestine this area to act as a starting point for the future potential development axis which will connect the existing urban functions in Žilina with the urban functions that will provide this transformed area.
