Peter Lešo, PhD., Zvolen 2015, range 37 pages.The goal of this bachelor thesis was to provide an overview of results published in various scientific papers about biology, ecology, distribution and protection of the Alpine marmot. The next goal was to map the occurence of marmot in the Eastern part of the main ridge of NP Low Tatras – on a transection tracing a tourist path (the red sign from Kralova hola to Certovica). The final part is an evaluation of our results compared to earlier published papers, an evaluation of the favorable condition and a suggestion how to improve the protection of the species in the given area through managerial precautions. The assumption was there will be no occurrence of marmot from the ridge of Certovica to approx Zdiarske saddle because of the presence of dwarf pine in that area. The occurrence of the marmot was possible in Velka Vapenica too, but it was not proved. The path led from Priehybka sadle around Andrejcova shelter to Zdiarske sadle. It continues through Bartkova, Orlova where some sounds of marmot were recorded. Despite of longer waiting time in Orlova, it was not possible to visually detect the presence of marmots. The track continued to Stredna hola and further to Kralova hola. On both of these places no sings of marmots were observed.
