The project Sportshall Rača is situated in Bratislava Rača and is accessible from an important traffic corridor Račianska Žitá. The area has a good access to traffic roads, pedestrian- and cyclopaths. It is a compact monofunctional building. The assignment of the project includes basic space arrangement and maximum volume of the project. It is solved regarding the location and the supposed way of use. Sportshall is intended to be used all day as a training or free time multipurpose hall for the inhabitants of the neighbourhood as well as for visitors, no matter what their age and performance level is. The space arrangement enables using the space for a variety of different purposes not only for sports. Organic part of the project is the design of neighboring exterior playgrounds and surrounding public space. The sports hall epitomizes an archetypal white translucent cube imbedded into the terrain. The façade consists of opalescent polycarbonate and transparent glass panels. The aim here was to create optimal daylight conditions for the sportsmen and reflect the movement inside the building. The light inside the gym is diffuse so that the sportsmen are not blinded by the daylight. The spaces that need direct sunlight have transparent glass windows. At night the structure appears as a glowing crystal, thus lowering the costs for illumination of adjacent public space. The project is designed regarding the principles of social sustainability. Rainwater is collected and retained to be reused for toilet flushing. The outer timber frame construction enables the variability of the interior -- it can be rebuilt when a new function is implemented. The concept of the inner arrangement minimizes the number of personnel. Building project has one story over ground and one partly under. Both floors have the acces from the terrain. On the entrance floor there are: entrance hall, gyms, changing rooms, rooms for the trainers and refree and a room for first aid. On the upper floor there are located: tribune, fittness, snack bar, office space for the sports hall administration and the technical rooms. The project is designed regarding the context of the surrounding urban and sports area. The building, however, steps out of the place and shines in the territory and thus becomes a remarkable landmark.
