BAŠTÁK, A. 2019. Shuttle water supply options in case of forest fire – Calculations of forces and means needed: bachelor thesis. Zvolen: Technical university in Zvolen. Faculty of Wood science and technology. 2019. s.58. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine the advantages and disadvantages of the forest fire-fighting method using shuttle water supply in the fire-fighting practice. Forest fire is one of the most serious and the most common causes of forest destruction with a significant negative impact not only on flora and fauna, but also on the life and health of people. Given that hardly accessible areas make the fire-fighting more difficult, the first part of this bachelor thesis is devoted to the description of different types of forest fire. Next, shuttle water supply as the most common fire ground technique is discussed in detail. It includes an elaborated description of the material means used in the fire-fighting practice. Moreover, this bachelor thesis deals with the firefighting methods used not only in Slovakia but also in the United States of America, followed by comparison of the two countries. When choosing the right firefighting method, the type and scale of fire, as well as the terrain and its accessibility, shall be taken into account. The last part of this thesis focuses on the calculation of the forces, resources and material needed for fire-fighting based on the possibilities available in given time and circumstances.
