BARTOŠ, MAROŠ: Structural thinning as a tool for conversion of even-aged spruce stands in Forest District Paráč. The Diploma thesis. Technical University in Zvolen. Faculty of Forestry; Department of Silviculture. Supervisor: doc. Ing. Stanislav Kucbel, PhD., Zvolen, 2020. 74 p.The aim of this diploma thesis was to analyze diameter and vertical structure of the stand before and after the intervention, based on measurements in the network of permanent research plots. The research was conducted in forest stand 133c10 which is part of the Pro Silva object Požehov in forest district Paráč (Forest Enterprise Námestovo). The stand is in the process of conversion to structurally differentiated forest using the application of structural thinning. The structural thinning is the part of conversion process that provides conditions for long regeneration period with the aim to increase the increment on the most valuable target trees and to create two-layered stand. In the surveyed stand, target trees were selected according to biosociological position and quality. The intervention was focused on support of target trees by cutting of 1-2 canopy stems that limited their growth at most. At the same time, the intervention indirectly supported the subcanopy trees, their vitality and formation of sufficiently long crowns. The aim of the silvicultural measures was to form the multi-layered structure and increase the static stability of the stand. The next aim was to quantify the current stand volume, the gross running increment as well as the intensity of the tending measures. This characteristics allowed to execute the silvicultural intervention with the optimal intensity that reached 57 m3.ha-1. This value was compared with the data presented in the Forest Management Plan (FMP). We found out that the prescribed intervention intensity was significantly lower and the tending measure with the intensity prescribed by the FMP would have had distinctively weaker positive effect on the stand structuralization and support of the target trees.
