People are significantly impacting enviroment in which he lives and change his surrounding by modification. In present days there are no ecosystems that were not influenced by human actions. This mostly applies to forest ecosystems. Industrial revolution, development of mining and smelting was the cause for usage of forests as source of building timber and wood fuel, forests were thanks to this percepted as producents of wood for centuries. Nowdays, in time of advancements of society, ecologisation of society and recent impacts of climate changes and nature disasters pushed society towards appreciation for forests as multifunctional producents of many different servicies and functions not just as wood producents. People all over the world are following the trend of pushing towards fullfilling non-producion services of forest ecosystems. Goal of this thesis was to compare understanding of forest ecosystems by citizens of Sweden and Slovakia. Data were collected by questionare distributed via social sites and web pages. Results of work proves, that society want from forest mostly non-production functions sucha s oxygen production, relaxation and relief, only in limited scale society think about forest as a wood producent.
