The methods and construction procedures used in the construction of traditional timber structures in Japan are presented in the thesis. The emphasis was placed on the structures, construction details, methods and design of carpentry joints. Furthermore, the selection of tree species and their use in construction is described in the thesis. The aim of the thesis is to explain and clarify carpentry structures and structural details typical for traditional Japanese timber structures. The methodology of the thesis is designed so that it proceeds from the whole to the details. Climatic conditions in Japan affecting the origin of wooden structures and their construction are described in the thesis as well. The emphasis is placed on the division of the building into smaller units - foundation, floor, wall structures, ceiling structure, truss and roofing.
