The master’s thesis deals with the cooperation between the volunteer fire departments (VFD) and the fire and rescue service (FRS) during fire drills taking place inside of a school facility. The thesis is divided into two parts. The introduction dissects the current legislature used by the firefighter units, the cooperation between VFDs and FRSs in Slovak Republic, Czech Republic and Austria, and the summary of their work over the past four years. The second part aims at the fire drills which tested the cooperation between the two types of departments in practice, and proved their teamwork to be essential. Afterwards, the amount of necessary force was calculated through several practical equations, namely through the way the fire would spread. However, these calculations are not that helpful when it comes to real fires because in these situations, time is the most important factor. At the end of the thesis, the results and suggestions, which could improve the fire drills, are presented.
