CORONA is the name of a US government-sponsored program aimed at capturing images from the former socialist bloc from 1959 to 1972. The program has been used to capture the current territory of Slovakia several times a year using spy satellites. In 1995, images for environmental applications were declassified and made available. The task of the work will be to process an overview of the use of the above mentioned historical images in forestry and related industries and to process an available database of images for University Forest Enterprise. The main aim of the thesis is to examine several methods of ortho-rectification and to propose an optimized procedure. The practical result is the creation of an image database of geometrically corrected historical images for the selected territory. The mean position error for ortho-rectified images ranged from 2-7 m.
