The bachelor thesis is thematically focused on problems in the field of wooden buildings and materials used in their construction. In addition to the properties of the basic wood building materials, the properties of materials that can be termed specific are also described, since their function is rather decorative than functional.Following the theoretical analysis of the above-mentioned problems, the practical part of the thesis is focused on specific materials. Specifically, it is the assessment of the behavior of two types of braided ropes - hemp and wood wool (used in wood-felling sculp-tures as decorative material) during their thermal load. Two test methods were used for this evaluation - a flame ignition test using a heat source and a test using a radiant heat source. The assessment criteria were flame propaga-tion on vertically oriented samples, weight loss and ignition time. The results of the evaluation revealed that the hemp rope confirmed its inclusion in the E-fire reaction class, so it could also be classified in the higher reaction to fire class but would have to undergo further testing criteria. With regard to the rope made of wood wool, it did not fulfill the assessment criteria for inclusion in the reaction-to-fire class E. Possible reasons why one rope met the criteria and the other was not, for example, the dif-ferent ropes, the processing method and the type of raw material used for the production rope.
