The aim of the Master thesis is to design a building that will serve as a facility for the elderly, in which its residents will feel good and live their old age with dignity. The environment of the proposed facility should provide them with a space in which its residents will not stagnate, but – in addition to enjoying a well-deserved retirement – continue to develop. In the introduction, the thesis is focused on explaining the issue of specific needs of nursing homes arising from healthcare needs of handicapped people with low vision. The main part of the thesis is devoted to theoretical backgrounds and standards associated with designing the structure for retirees. In this part, the building layout with the emphasis on the specific needs of final users is analysed. Moreover, construction of critical details in terms of thermal and technical approaches of the structure with the aim to design the structure to be recognised as a certified passive house is described.
