The issue of flood protection is also relevant in the conditions of the Slovak Republic due to extreme weather events, which are assumed to occur in recent years, mainly due to the changing climate. It is topical especially from the point of view of the adaptation of the population to their occurrence and increasing the level of readiness of rescue services to mitigate their negative consequences or protection of life, health, and property of the population from the crisis management point of view. The main goal of the diploma thesis was to verify the possibilities and suitability of computer-aided modelling using computer programs ArcGIS for Desktop, Hec-GeoRAS and HEC-RAS in crisis management practice, specifically on the example of modelling the potential flooded village Podbrezová at five hundred (Q500) and (Q1000) floods. The result of the modelling (experiment) are graphical outputs representing the five-year-old and millennial floods potentially affected by the area of the village Podbrezová. The area of the flood-affected area was also calculated, and individual buildings located in the flooded area were also identified. The forces and means usable for the performance of flood rescue work were also described. The application of the tested tools is not entirely suitable for laymen, as the level of evaluation of modelling results in this case does not reach the required level of depth of analysis. For this reason, we recommend their application exclusively for experts in the field.
