The thesis aims to study occurrence of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx L.) in Poľana Protected Landscape Area (PLA). We analysed occurrence of the species using the method of tracking animal footprints, traces and signs during six seasons. Along with that we evaluated effectiveness of such monitoring with the help of camera traps. The results have shown that the lynx is a common and resident species in the area. The abundance ranges about eight individuals. Actually, the species has been recorded across the whole study area. Regarding to environmental characteristics of the area, we may conclude that habitats and food resources in the Poľana PLA are suitable for the occurrence of the lynx. We found that camera trapping is a convenient method for individual identification. Five individuals of the lynx were determined plausibly. Our findings will thus contribute to optimal management of the species in the study area.
