The concept "ecosystem services" has only been known since 2003, when it was introduced by American researchers to the professional public. This topic is extremely relevant in today's world. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the state and quality of forest biotopes from the point of view of provided ecosystem services. Our research is focused on ecosystem services of forest biotopes, where we focused on forest ecosystems near water resources. We mapped the infiltration areas of water sources in Liptov, namely in Liptovské Matiašovce - Pod Mníškom, Kvačany - Pod Babou and the largest water source for Liptovský Mikuláš and its surroundings, which is located in Demänovská Dolina - Vyvieračka and Zadná Voda. We identified individual forest parts in the vicinity of these water sources and based on these findings we proceeded to evaluate the potential of forest functions according to the methodology of Vyskot et al., (2003). We evaluated the individual ecosystem services of the identified forest biotopes. We found out that the highest level of evaluation was not achieved by any identified biotope, but in terms of evaluation of hydro-water management, we stated that forest biotopes achieve a high degree of evaluation. We obtained data on the water taken from individual water sources and calculated the anticipated revenues, which serve as a financial expression of the ecosystem services of the forest in the form of drinking water. In this thesis, we wanted to express the mutual interconnection and dependence of ecosystem services on healthy and well-managed forests, which can provide us with ecosystem services in various forms such as drinking water, recreation, relaxation, forest fruits and many others.
