The goal of the diploma thesis is to analyze the situation in the family businesses in the Slovak Republic. Theoretical part briefly characterizes the business in general. The core of the theoretical part is focused on the definition of the family business and its specifics such as succession, support or relations. This part of the thesis also defines the advantages and disadvantages of the family business. The analytical part is focused on the investigation of the real situation in the family businesses in the Slovak republic. The empirical research was conducted through the questionnaire that contained questions focused on support, relations and sufficient information from the state. The results of the empirical research were processed using statistical, graphical and describing methods. The final part of the diploma thesis identifies problems and barriers of the family business. This part of the thesis also contains suggestions for alleviation or elimination problems. The final part of the thesis identifies the pros of the family business that tries to improve.
