This master’s thesis focuses on the issue of floods, anti-flood protection, factors affecting or preventing floods, evaluation of the state and flow capacity of Konopný potok stream in the interior of Beluša village and exterior of Beluša and Dolné Kočkovce villages compared with real maximum and N-yearly flows that could be achieved or exceeded in select N-years. Konopný potok stream is in Váh river’s basin, its length is 6.626 km and its area is 6.383 km2, making it a small basin. From flow capacity calculations compared with actual flows we have found out that out of 32 sample sections, 17 are not able to withstand even 1 year’s water, pointing to, on average, annual flooding. On the other hand, out of 32 sections, only 2 are able to withstand the maximum culminated flow that is achieved or exceeded on average once in a 100 years and only these two sections are deemed satisfactory. For other sections, this thesis offers proposals of anti-flood measures that could contribute to flood protection on the studied water stream.
