The results of the systematic camera trapping in the Štiavnica Mountains Protected Landscape Area from 2013 to 2014 showed the lowest estimated density of the population of Eurasian lynx (0.58 ± 0.13 of lynx on 100 km2 of a suitable biotype) in Slovakia. The population of lynx in Štiavnica Mts. PLA, did not reach the favourable state. Therefore a continual stratified monitoring is implemented within the area. The aim of my bachelor´s thesis was the realisation of opportunistic monitoring of lynx with camera traps and collecting of accessible data about the distribution of lynx in Štiavnica Mts. PLA area, with its follow-up processing and interpretation on the basis of the standards defined within monitoring of the alpine population of lynx and by professionals of SCALP. The results of this monitoring allowed the relevant evaluation of the population status of lynx in the area and provide important recommendations for the following conservation and management The collected data and the population of the lynx in the Štiavnica Mts. PLA were subsequently evaluated within the definition of the favorable, respectively unfavorable state in the Slovak Carpathians. The results of the bachelor´s thesis show that range and the state of the lynx population do not meet the favourable state of this species in Slovakia. The management measures for reaching the convenient state should therefore consist mainly sustaining of suitable habitats and consistent analyse of influences for their connectivity as well as the local lynx population within the construction of new infrastructure mainly roads by building of a bio corridors and green bridges within the motorway R2 and planned construction of the motorway R3 Zvolen – Šahy. This should prevent the fragmentation of the local lynx population in Štiavnica Mts. PLA. The essential measures consist also a regular realisation of the systematic monitoring and activities for informing and improving the level of public awareness on lynx.
