The status and trend of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) population in Europe and in the Slovak Carpathians has changed for a long time due to direct persecution of the species, minimal numbers of its prey, loss of suitable habitats and legal protection. However, the current state and trend of the lynx population in Slovakia and the Eastern Slovak Carpathians has been for a long time based only on expert estimates which were not based on relevant data obtained through systematic monitoring. The goal of the bachelor thesis was for this reason realization of opportunistic camera trapping, as well as the collection of available data on lynx in Protected Landscape Area of the Eastern Carpathians with subsequent processing and interpretation based on standards defined in monitoring alpine lynx populations and SCALP (Status and Conservation of the Alpine Lynx Population). The results of the bachelor thesis proved the presence of the lynx during the studied years 2015-2021, via 57 records in all categories of data C1 - C3. The obtained records also confirmed the reproduction of the lynx in the Protected Landscape Area of the Eastern Carpathians, which is an important prerequisite for maintaining the long-term viability of the population of these species in the studied area and on the entire western edge of the Eastern Carpathians. Based on our results, it is possible to assume that the lynx population in the Protected Landscape Area of the Eastern Carpathians is in a favorable state (Kropil 2005), but to confirm this assumption, further systematic monitoring of these species is needed. The Eastern Carpathians in Ukraine host the northwestern part of the Carpathian lynx population. In the event of a violation / interruption of the distribution of the lynx within the Ukrainian Carpathians, the lynx population in Slovakia would be isolated and the migration of individuals from the Eastern to the Western Carpathians would be limited. This could pose an important threat to the long-term viability of the lynx population in Slovakia. For this reason, it is necessary to implement relevant systematic monitoring of the population in Slovakia but also in Ukraine with an analysis of dispersion and migration of the lynx between the Eastern and the Western Carpathians.
