ŠELIGOVÁ K. 2021. Determination and evaluation of retention curves of the most important soil types of Slovakia as an important factor affecting the movement of pollutants in soil. Bachelor thesis, Zvolen: Technical University in Zvolen. Faculty of Ecology and Environmental. 2021. 39 pp. Anthropogenic activity is a significant way that impairs the quality or productivity of soil and groundwater. The consequences of polluting or toxic substances are different and enter the environment in many ways. The decisive characteristic influencing the movement of toxic substances in the soil is the retention curve. For this reason, we focused on measuring and evaluating retention curves from 21 samples taken on the most represented soil types and mutual comparison of measured retention curves and determining statistical differences between individual soil types. In order to evaluate the retention properties of the most important soil types in Slovakia, soil samples were taken at several localities in central Slovakia. Soil samples were taken using Kopecký's physical cylinders as undisturbed soil samples and the drying branch of the retention curve was measured using overpressure vessels. The resulting retention curves were statistically evaluated with each other using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Based on the obtained results, it can be stated that from the point of view of potential contamination, the riskiest soil types are Rendzic Leptosols and Eutric Cambisols, then follows Cambic podzols and basically all soil types characterized by a higher proportion of sand in fine soils.
