The bachelor's thesis deals with the analysis of the current state in the spruce mountain forest in the area of the Skorušinské vrchy Mts. It is focused on the processing of issues in the field of high-elevation forests, which includes a description of the seventh forest vegetation stage, the characteristics and importance of individual tree species, the dynamics and silvicultural measures in alpine spruce forests. The research part of the bachelor's thesis was carried out on newly established research plots in a stand on the northern exposition of the Skorušiny massif (Skorušinské vrchy Mts). The following variables were recorded on the research plots: tree species, diameter at breast height (dbh), height, crown base height, number of dead individuals and their share from the living stock, volume of living and dead individuals, density of natural regeneration. The results of field measurements were subsequently described and stated. In the tree composition was clearly dominated by spruce, the average of diameter at breast height of which reached 28.2 cm. The number of dead individuals showed significant differences between the research plots. When evaluating the density of natural regeneration, its significant absence in the stand was found. The research was focused on the evaluation of disturbance dynamics in stands that are without stronger intervention of human activity. The result of the work is that spruce forests without silvicultural management tend to create unstable communities.
