For the versatility of plastics in our daily lives, it is very important to evaluate them in terms of fire protection and safety. The bachelor thesis focuses on the comparison of important technical and structural plastics polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC), whose applicability is mainly in the construction and electrical engineering industries. The evaluation was carried out mainly from a theoretical point of view and the results of tests performed by other authors from available literature sources. The plastics were compared from the results of the method according to the standard STN ISO 1210 (1996), based on the values of fire-technical characteristics such as linear burning rate, spontaneous combustion time, heat release rate and comparison of large-scale test. From the overall evaluation, it achieved better results in terms of fire protection and PC safety in comparison with PMMA in individual parameters of fire characteristics, but also in a large-scale test.
