Task of the project is design of ECOcentre for civil association ArTUR, Architecture of Sustainable Development. Task is restoration of a building of former village school and building of a new object, addition to the former school building. Object of the school was built in 1903, it is not under cultural heritage protection, but it`s important identification point for citizens. Valuable is northern, street, façade and volume of the house, in interior former classrooms and stage room. Restoration is due to preserve hictoric values and addition of energy efficiency standard. Important element is illustration, becase of the building service to the public as demonstration. Many procedures are so called "dark green" and highly experimental. Advantage of the design is possibility of long-term observation of the experimental procedures and technologies in praxis, not in laboratory conditions. The school building is built on a small ground. Spacial needs of education institution such as Ecocentre demand a much larger area. Therefore is necessary to design a new object. Extension is hanging in the high of second level midair on piles beneath communication part of the ground. As piles are used roughtly shaped tree trunks of oaks of floodplain forrests. Extension is designed in passive house standard. Suspension system is made out of wooden beams, thermal insulation is out of straw and blown cellulose. Extension works as an attractor, builts a strong expression element. She doesn`t beat the old structural mass, she communicates through walks. In the design are used newest technologies in sanitary and heating technologies area., high-volume composting canisters for WC, root purifier, gasing boiler for wood, heat recovery ventilation. ECOcentre will be for his fuction unique of it`s kind in Slovak Republic. In our conditions are education centres such as these not really usual. ECOcentre gives unique union of practical and theoretical, "adult: and childish, experimental and traditional, active and vacation, intense and occasional attitude to ecology and enviromental education.
