[Bachelor thesis]; Technical University in Zvolen; Faculty of Forestry; Department of Integrated Forest and Landscaspe Protection; Thesis supervisor: Ing. Martin Pavlík, PhD. 2020, 41 pages. The aim of thesis is focused on summarizing the knowledge about wood-decaying fungus Polyporus umbellatus (Pers.) Fr. and the possibilities of its use. This species occurs in almost all countries, except of areas with extreme climate conditions. We classify them among ligninolytic species of fungus, which cause white rot and subsequent disintegration of the darker part of the wooden mass. It is one of the most valuable and widely used medicinal mushrooms, which are beneficial for the human body. The thesis describes theoretical information about morphology, taxonomy, properties and significance of Polyporus umbellatus in the forest ecosystem. The thesis also includes observation of the Polyporus umbellatus in Slánske vrchy Mts. and subsequent evaluation of data.
