Babinec, Štefan: The Risk Assessment of Occurrences of Crisis Situations as a Result of the Changing Climate in Slovakia. [Diploma thesis] – Technical University in Zvolen. Faculty of Wood Science and Technology. Department of Fire Protection. – Thesis supervisor: doc. Ing. Andrea Majlingová. PhD.This thesis focuses on the risk assessment of occurrences of crisis situations of a natural character, which are about to occur more often and of a greater intensity as a result of the climate change. The climate change and the associated risks are among the most critical issues of the current world. Therefore, it is important to spread the information about the phenomenon. The thesis is divided into the several parts. At the beginning, the thesis deals with the climate change, its current state and includes the anticipated scenarios of its development in Europe as well as in Slovakia. The chapter further deals with the current state of the adaptation as the solution on the international, European and national level. Furthermore, the potential threats of a natural character are identified in the thesis – mainly the results of the climate change: the higher risk of floods, forest fires, landslides and extreme weather conditions. Then, the regions of Slovakia of the highest risk of formation of identified events are determined and the current Slovak resilience is analyzed along with the proposal of adaptation measures against the impacts of the climate change. Finally, the thesis deals with the financial assessment of the adaptation measures not only for the mentioned threats, but also for the comprehensive solution of the climate change in all spheres. The main aim of the thesis is to identify the potential threats of the natural character, assess the susceptibility and vulnerability of Slovakia as well as its current resilience and to point out to the importance of the issue.
