Game is one of the main factors that significantly affects the regeneration and cultivation of the forest. For this reason, during the hunting season 2020/2021, we analyzed the damage caused by ungulate game in the model area of hunt district Tribeč. We assess damage by game in young forest stands in the open area (291 10 - Sias, 43 10 - Pod Ploskou, 253 10 - Horný Polom) and in areas in wooden fences (294 c 10 - Sias, 458 A - Pod Ploskou, 253 10 - Horný Polom), using the valid methodological procedure for the assessment and valuation of damage caused by game in the forest according to Finď and Petráš (2006). The analysis of woody plants in individual research areas (fencing vs. free area) showed different growth parameters (height and thickness), as well as different frequency in the occurrence of individual types of animal damage (browsing, biting off, fraying, or other damage). Our results show that ungulate game causes significantly higher damage in stands that were not found in wooden fences. To eliminate these damages, it is necessary to deal with hunting management, it means to reduce the number of ungulate game and apply the principles of mechanical and chemical protection of individual stands.
