This work deals with the changes of soil properties in differently managed pine stands and in disturbed pine forests as well. The theoretical part discusses the characteristics of eolic sands in Slovakia, the history of human influence on forests and soil. The research was performed on the territory of the Záhorská lowland in western Slovakia. There are mainly forest soils on eolic sands. Soil samples were taken in a classically managed stand, in a stand with close-to-nature silviculture and in an area with decaying pine stands. The soil samples were collected along linear transects in three stands (repetitions) of each type of forest. Soil profile was excavated to a depth of 100 cm at each transect and samples were taken in 10 cm intervals down the soil profiles, and on 4 sampling points along the transects from the depth of 0-10 cm as well. Soil moisture, pH and concentrations of biogenic elements were determined in the laboratory. The results showed that soils in the close-to-nature managed stand had higher concentrations of carbon, nitrogen and higher soil moisture. On the contrary, the soil reaction was the lowest in this type of stand and reached only pH = 3.36 in the first 10 cm. Phosphorus also had the lowest concentration in the close-to-nature managed stand. No significant differences between stands were found for the concentrations of Mg, Ca and K.
