My task was to design the reconstruction of the square of miners in Rožňava. My goal was to revive the square, to create a whole new face and to maximize user's comfort for all of the citizens. Rožňava is located in the region of Košice and it's the one of the eleven of district towns. The town has a rich historical value, it was an important mining town and a center of various crafts. Miner's square is the oldest Middle age's square shaped square in Slovakia. That's why I was loking for such a philosopy, which is directly related to the city and it's multifaced history. After detailed analysis and problem solving, I came to the result that wolud change the current limitations of the square. My biggest task was to change the situation of the traffic and parking. The road passing the square is very important especially for the abmulances going to the hospital and for the supply operations for the public facilities. In my design, I respect it, I just changed the way of the road and reduced the number of parking spaces. The road is borded with bollards that create a barrier between the road and the pedestrian zone. Because of the new way of the road, a comfortable pedestrian zone was formed in the center of the square. Round the church and tower, I created a smimilar space as before, but without the huge and ancient trees. I have incorporated the monument of Františka Andrássy to the wide stairs While I was analysing the history of the town, I have found out the major craft of the area. Exept of mining, there where many crafts, that influenced the town and it's citizens. One of them was the blueprinting, what interested me the most. From the most significant motifs of blueprinting I choose the motive of peacock, which has often inspired artist. I have incorporated this motive to the pedestrian zone of my design, but I have simplify it to circular areas and fine strips. The whole design is simple but rich of motifs and symbology. These areas has different functional charakteristics, some of them are used for seating or for active recreation. Street furniture and lighting elements have simple form and they are minimal. Night lighting creates a pleasant atmosphere of the square using the built-in spotlights around the tower, which are incorporated into the peacock theme. I was tried to create a space which is enriched with new and interesting features, but still with historical character. My design is fully accessible to all and it creates a pleasant atmosphere and comfort in the urban interior.
