The task of the assignment was to design a reconstruction of the square "Námestie Baníkov" in Rožňava. It was necessary to change the structure, which is currently unsuitable, and then to create a new, modern square, which would provide the inhabitants with the space to meet and relax, however it would respect in the same time current requirements of all target groups. The main idea of the reconstruction is the location of the modular raster on the pavement level, which clearly separates the historical part of the centre from the other area. One of the major changes was the re-routing of the traffic lanes that led through the square and also to design parking space, which would solve the fundamental problem of the static transportation. In the square I proposed one-way ring road, which is intended to mediate the supply for the population and the access road for the first aid or firemen vehicles. This communication road, which is on the level of the pavement, divides the space into an active part -- the first floor (parterre) of the buildings, and a relaxing part -- which includes a place for gathering in the west part from the watch towers and the space for relaxing in the east part. Supporting of the historical buildings in the square may be considered as a contribution of my proposal. As both the plague column and the monument of F. Andrassy are located in the significant positions, they were highlighted with some compositional elements and they remained in their original place. The above-mentioned pavement raster is a good solution for the monument which is, in comparison with the watch tower, placed asymmetrically. By creating a tree alley in the southern part of the square, the view is directly at the significant monument which may be seen from the access road from the main communication road. The modular strips are extended to every side from the pavement raster in the centre of the square, and moreover, they visually link the ground floor and the historical part of the square. In the eastern part I suggested water area which improves the microclimate of the environment. At the same time, the water area creates a compositional element to the plague column. The positive climate conditions enable the presence of the green vegetation which creates the alley with the long shadows for the benches placed under the trees, and at the same time, they optically divide the space into the active and relaxing part.
